Seattle, WA — While escorting the Vice President on August 15, 2023, police officer Kevin Bereta was catastrophically injured when he was launched from his motorcycle over the 27” tall railing of the South Michigan Street overpass in Seattle, falling 30 feet onto Interstate 5 below.

Today, The Stritmatter Firm filed a lawsuit on the officer’s behalf.  An extensive review of public records, revealed that the State knew a decade ago, that a 42” barrier was needed to render overpasses reasonably safe.  The dangers of this specific overpass – specifically for motorcyclists – were well known to the State.  Because in 2018 and 2020, motorcyclists were launched over the edge onto the freeway below.

Officer Bereta sustained life-threatening injuries, the most serious of which are permanent in nature.
